I decided to quickly write something about this, since i always do, when I have something to moan about. What is it this time? I was just asking myself why the dance floor is more crowded when Remady and his MC are clowning around (sorry about this words) on the stage, than when Eric Prydz plays a huge set of orgasmic tracks. I don’t get it and I don’t know if I want to join such an embarrassing crowd again. And this is certainly not against the organizers. It was really well organized, drinks were at a reasonable price, sound was good (a bit soft maybe)… But the people were probably not aware of who was playing. And maybe they didn’t like the sound of Eric Prydz. Why bother paying entry then? Just to show yourself?

Yes we went there. I don’t have time to write a long review, so …
Appearance of the club: Really nice looking facilities, enough space, nice light show (except on the the stage could have been more light, at least when Ida Engberg is playing)
Sound equipment: Probably the sound would be nice. It was just not loud enough. What a pitty! First it was easy, but when the headliner DJ is playing and you can still talk to each other in normal volume right next to the speaker, then you know that s.th. is wrong.
Music: Well what can go wrong when these DJs are playing. Nice sets from all of the DJs.
Drinks & Food: Both available at reasonable club prices.
Restrooms: Large, almost clean.

This was our first time in Hinterhof. We tried and we weren’t disappointed. The Round Table Knights played some great music, a bit relaxed at the beginning, then some great beats, as we’re used to hear from them. Also the german import (can’t really say import in Basel though) Hickup, following the Knights, played some solid music.
The crowd was a bit tiny. At the very beginning, let’s say around midnight, there were almost no people in there. But the dance floor began to fill up as the Knights started with their set. The ambiance was really nice. Some were drunk, not aggressive but happy. All were in a good mood and shaking their ass off.
The club has got this “Fucked Up” (sorry) style, but a liked
Beer costs around 5 francs, drinks 15, entry 18.

More or less by chance, as José, Pepa and me felt like listening to good music and Sweet and Faisal didn’t care so much, we went with Rodolpho and Edgar, who actually wanted to go to Mad Wallstreet, to Bonsoir Club in Bern.
What was good? Really great music by Pol_On and quite good music by Round Table Nights, nice tiny club, great folks, which means no disturbing poeple, you know what i mean, and when I say no, I mean no. It’s like a miracle that they haven’t invaded this club already. Ladies.
What was not soo good? The heat: We were sweating like bennesöi. The bar: Maybe too small, it just took really long to get a drink, but the drinks were good.
What was the best? That Sweet said before they went home: Next time you have to tell me when you come here again. Unfortunately he missed the real jazzy part towards the end.
Done.

Oops, das ging doch mal gründlich in die Hose. Wo wart ihr denn alle? Am Argovia-Fest? Geht ja gaaar nicht!
Was hat Pop Art falsch gemacht?

First I have to say that writing a review for this event is not easy. I’m supposed to be critical, but this event was almost perfect.
Getting in: We first had to buy the Fumoar member card, which is an association in Basel trying to bypass the new smoke law. Therefore in the Schiff, it’s allowed to smoke, which we actually did, at least J. and me. C. was not very amused of having to pay for s.th. she doesn’t need. Well it’s a pointless discussion, since we wanted to get in and this was the condition. The Fumoir membership costs five swiss francs and can be used in other smoker’s places in Basel also.
The lounge: The lounge, which was nicely equipped, was the second floor as well. Some minor swiss DJs were rocking this little floor. In general the mixes weren’t quite good, at least as we were there. One exception though: Cem Demir really did a nice job, a great set, which we almost entirely listened to. Maybe someone to look out for.
The real party: The real party took place on the main floor, being on the lower level of the boat. This is where John Digweed, for me one of the fathers of progressive electronic dance music, was playing. He played a perfect set, well a John Digweed set with the finest music that is around. I wasn’t surprised, since some poeple I know actually go to Amsterdam to hear him play, but I was very impressed. And so was the crowd… my next topic.
The poeple: The poeple were OK. There was no violence, and the poeple seemed to appreciate the good music. Though I have count off some points for the drug consumption. The smell of pot was all over and F. saw some white noses. If you really need this, then do it… If you just do it when going out, then don’t. Music is better without drugs. This is at least my point of view.
To conclude I had a great night with C., J. and F., whereas going out with J. and C. was new to me. But very pleasant. And thanks to C. we even got in five francs cheaper… which we saved in order to pay for the smoker card

I have to admit: I expected more. All in all the event was OK, but not outstanding. I have been to better Nordbang events.
Nordstern is great. The beer is really cheap and there is enough space to hang around, if you don’t want to be on the dancefloor. And the price for the entry (CHF 15 for friendslist) was payable. The ambiance was good. No aggression what so ever.
The music was good. Davore on the small floor, played a really solid set. On the main floor, the headliners Mirko Loko and Dorian Paic were giving there best. But it didn’t blow me away. Both played good techno, but not really good techno. It could have been more driving, more defined.
What was really annoying is that the music broke down twice for about a minute each.
That’s pretty much it. I will give Nordbang another chance, because I know they can do better. Let’s hope for next time. Guido Schneider and Sébastien Léger are coming to play for Nordbang.

2 Stunden pausenloser Techno in Reinform.

WHAT A NIGHT! Rohstofflager was celebrating its 13th birthday and as you guess they had full house. When we entered the club at about 23.30 there were only some freaked-out guys dancing on the floor. Digital Hard was playing straight minimal and progtech. A few beers and vodkas later Darrien K opened his techno-set and there was no place to dance anymore. The crowd moved hardly to the pumping sound. But I had the feeling that everybody was just waiting for Detroit Tech Legend Jeff Mills himself. Eventually at 2.30 he took place behind the decks and opened his set with a ten minute intro. My ears felt like dying. The following hour he played very progressive techno and impressed with his fast mixing style. The last 1.5 hour of his set was a knobbly mix of techtunes of the 90s but sounding like 2010 techno underlining once more the timeless nature of techno music. At about 5 am we moved to the Stratos floor for another 40 minutes dancing to more “housier” techno. When we left the club at 5.45 no one felt like going home – full house. Finally I came to bed between 7 and 8 in the morning with the sound of the birds starting their day. again: WHAT A NIGHT!

Nice, we thought, finally we get to see Olivier Giacomotto play. And this in a great club, as we have seen 3 days ago, when Digweed was rocking that place. We quickly got disappointed, because there seemed to be no poeple there. Both floors were almost empty, lets say at 1am.
But as Giacomotto took over the decks, the dancefloor began to fill up. The place was getting on fire, it was pure party. After every breakdown, the crowd – still not a big crowd – went crazy. It was awesome and we don’t regret going to the Schiff again.
Giacomotto was playing a perfect set, really catching sounds always building up to higher dimensions, making us want to stay the entire night.
As I said, poeple were just going crazy… There were some annoying lads though: Don’t come to club with a pullover you wear for everything you do, that looks fucked up. Don’t come to club with a winter jacket, scarf, and sunglasses. But these were exceptions. In general it was a comfortable atmosphere.
